*blush* i have joined "them"
Ok - so here's the thing. EVERYONE has been making fun of lil ole me because I have found...KNITTING! OH MY GOD! How much fun is it?! Why are the masses of so-called "friends" makng fun of me? Because I am now the ultimate geek. Not only do I work with technology and *gasp* read tech books but I now knit. I already new how to CAST ON and knit and purl so last night I learnt - for the very first time - how to:
* use two colors
* CAST OFF! (Mr. Miyagi eat your heart out baby)
It was totally awesome! So now I am going to knit a little scarf for the mister who is very amused by his extremely non-domestic, ungirly wife creating pieces of clothing. I had no idea how therapeutic it is too... I'm a little disappointed that a needle and thread is still involved but hey - it's minimal so I'll suck it up and just live with it!
This week a scarf - next week: HATS! Yeah baby!
A frequent question asked of me is: WHY? Simple. Over Christmas, I was completely appalled at the amount of money that was spent (SPENT!)on presents for people - and everything was mostly done either online or in one day. And I thought... why? Why don't I learn a craft and next Christmas, make stuff for people? It's far more personalised & way more enjoyable than standing 30 deep in the Christmas crowds. And that's far more the spirit of Christmas than spending a fortune at your local shopping mall.
And baking. People are going to get the baked goods, the knitted pieces and - if I have any time left! - maybe even look at learning to build things.... oooooh! Wood!

Welcome to the world of knits & crafts! it's warm and friendly here. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures with sticks and string :) And I wouldn't worry about the snark from your friends -- at least a few of them will be knitters too before long!
I have converted a few! I now have a hard-core clubber, a netball fanatic, a travelling consultant and a tax inspector (!) in my group :) I'm thinking of starting a cult "knitting moonies"...
